Do you read stories to your children? Do you play tennis, or go swimming with your children? Do you cook, sing, or garden with your children?
Have you ever considered doing some maths with your children? Would you like to encourage a child whose interest hasn't yet been engaged by maths? Or are you looking for inspiration on how to support a child who is already keen? Come and discover how you can explore maths in far more family-friendly forms than just homework!
This free workshop is a taster for a series of Maths for Parents workshops taking place in Autumn. It is delivered in collaboration with the NRICH Maths Project, and is for parents, carers, grandparents etc who would like to know more about enjoying mathematics with their children. It will introduce you to a world of rich activities you can share, focusing on encouraging exploration, thinking and problem-solving.
No prior knowledge of maths is required. Come and experience the pleasure of working mathematically. Become hooked by puzzling problems, get excited by making mathematical discoveries, enjoy the challenge of finding a strategy for winning a game… and be inspired to return home and enjoy some of the activities with your children (as your homework!).
Please note that this session is designed for adults only.
