WEEKEND WORKSHOP Sat 24th and Sun 25th November
The Fundamentals, Theory, Practice and Anatomy of Breath-Centered Yoga
We are delighted to welcome one the worlds leading yoga teachers and anatomy experts Leslie Kaminoff back for a another special visit to Cambridge.
This will be his third time at Camyoga and he is bringing all new material for two separate two day workshops including asana practice alongside theory and breath-work
The Fundamentals, Theory, Practice and Anatomy of Breath-Centered Yoga
For all yoga practitioners including students, teachers & trainees looking to individualize their breath-centered yoga practice from an anatomically informed perspective and take their practice to th...e next level.
Saturday November 24 9:30am-12:30pm
Anatomy and Myth Busting
Breath-centered yoga practice in the tradition of Krishnamacharya and Desikachar focuses on the details of how to coordinate the breath with flowing movement and spinal action. Leslie Kaminoff has made it his mission to understand the anatomical basis of this approach, and in the process has uncovered many myths and misunderstandings about breathing.
The morning session will consist of an exploratory sequence of asana and vinyasa that helps clarify the key areas of anatomical focus for yoga practice. Teaching the anatomical realities of the body's primary breathing muscle, the diaphragm, myths will be busted and new breath possibilities emerge.
2:00-5:00pm Theory and Practice
In the afternoon, Leslie will turn his attention to theory and practice inherent in this breath-centered approach. Building on the morning's material, he will lead participants into a deeper understanding of the three dimensional nature of breath and movement.
An inquiry-based practice sequence will help clarify how standardized breath cueing is unable to account for the wide diversity of individual breathing patterns while also introducing teaching strategies that allow for adaptive modifications within group practice.
Sunday November 25 9:30am-12:30pm
Bones, Muscles and Structural Diversity: The Anatomy of the Individual
The morning's visually-rich session will present a wealth of evidence that confirms the absolute, anatomical uniqueness of each individual. We'll compare structural differences in bone shape and joint orientation, and explore how such variation informs our experience of basic poses. Leslie will lead the group in a practice that allows for structural and proprioceptive differences, suggesting simple breath and alignment modifications that can make practice safer and more effective.
The Essential Spine: Healthy Movement, Steady Support
Though a balanced yoga practice should move the spine safely through its full range of possibilities, some common alignment cues do not produce evenly distributed spinal movement. Repeated practice in this manner can result in a perpetuation of chronic tightness in the very areas the poses seek to release. This session will provide solid grounding about the structure and function of the spine from an anatomical and a yogic perspective. Leslie will lead the class in a safe, balanced asana practice illuminating the role of breath in supporting challenging shapes.
