A short, late-night concert performance of Robert Lucas de Pearsall's Requiem Mass for Choir, Organ and Brass in Peterhouse Chapel, performed by The Choir of Peterhouse, Cambridge directed by Simon Jackson. FREE ENTRY.
One of the leading composer's of his generation, R.L. de Pearsall (1795-1856) is most famous today for his arrangement of the carol 'In Dulci Jubilo' and the exquisite 8-part madrigal 'Lay a garland'. Never performed in his lifetime, and only rarely performed today, the Requiem Mass — its choral textures enriched by the timbres of a small brass ensemble — is an unjustly neglected work, richly sonorous and tenderly lyrical in equal measure.
