A Grave WIth No Name
Alexander Shields has been recording music under the moniker A GRAVE WITH NO NAME for a number of years now, creating collections of songs that encapsulate the longing, desolate feeling of his namesake. Shields carefully crafts voice, ambient noise, thoughtful acoustics and field recordings to create an atmosphere that is at times both distant and intensely intimate.
A welcome return for musician and sound artist Cam Deas to CDG's traditional 'bleak January' event. Working in an entirely live environment, Deas uses his self-built modular synth in combination with an acoustic guitar to create a kind of real-time musique concrete, manipulating the sounds of the steel strings to create other-worldy piercing crackles, anthropomorphic drones and drawn-out sonorous clangs, resulting in an abstract yet organic and wholly captivating contemporary electronic music.
“...the notes of his 12 string acoustic are raw material for violent sculpture, torn apart and flung about separately by the manipulations of his modular synth, bouncing around the space in a hyper-kinetic match of sound squash.” – The Wire
