In this Celebration of the Great Female Jazz Singers, Singer/Pianist Ruth Applin and her trio, will take you on a journey through some of the Classic and best loved songs that were performed by the Great Jazz Ladies of the past. From the inimitable Ella, through ‘Sassy’ Sarah Vaughan, the elegant Peggy Lee, the blues of Etta James and the lilting latin songs of Astrud Gilberto, to name but a few. This promises to be a musical journey celebrating the wonderful melody of song, and the memory of the great singers that contributed to the pantheon of vocal jazz. Expect well-know classics, as well as some lesser known gems among the repertoire of this performance.

Ruth will be joined by a band of notable musicians on the Cambridge Jazz Scene, Louis Thorne on Bass and Les Cirkel on drums, as well as acclaimed saxophonist Josh Kemp.

Cambridge-raised, and now London-based, singer/pianist Ruth Applin brings her rich and stylish vocals and swinging piano playing to this celebration of jazz song. Ruth began her musical journey singing on the Cambridge jazz scene, before moving to London where she graduated from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where she was able to work with notable musicians, such as Lee Gibson, Tina May and Anita Wardell. She has been a resident performer at some of the capital’s most prestigious venues, and never fails to delight audiences with her stylish and sophisticated performances.
