After three terms working incredibly hard for the Union, I have decided to run for the position of Speakers Officer.

My vision for Lent 2018 is clear: To deliver the best and most engaging term card, offering diversity whilst ensuring that I do not compromise on quality. Through my four major manifesto policies, I will endeavour to make Lent 2018 an incredible term for the Union.

Since starting at Cambridge, I have worked tirelessly in three different Union posts in order to ensure the smoothest, most engaging debates and speaker events. Whether it be giving up my weekends to write invites to debaters, or spending long hours looking after the guests, I have dedicated myself firmly and wholeheartedly to ensuring that you – the members – get the most of your membership.

MAIN MANIFESTO POLICIES:

Deliver an incredible line-up: A Speakers officer should, fundamentally, be ambitious in the line-up. Attracting more TV stars, public figures, experts in fields such as politics and science and individuals with interesting stories; the Union should utilise their amazing connections to bring you the most engaging term card yet. This means more speakers, with a greater variety in content.

Greater collaboration with other societies as well as incentives for securing speakers: Work with the many other societies to offer a variety of speaker events. If you secure a speaker, you are invited to the dinner – simple! In this way, everyone is a winner.

Appointed Speakers Deputy: This should be offered as an official appointed role. This would diversify the term card, increase accessibility, and place a greater emphasis on the Speakers Committee.

Budget Reallocation: The money we have should primarily be used for attaining and hosting Speakers, which is the main purpose of membership. I believe there needs to be a review in the style and the distribution of spending, making cost of joining as worthwhile as possible.
