There’s no doubt Ashtanga Yoga is a very physical, dynamic practice, which is part of its appeal for many practitioners. However, it is not a workout. There are many things that differentiate it from a workout, one of them being finding the famous balance between effort and ease. This can be applied to many different aspects of the practice: The breath should be neither too shallow nor too forced. Asanas should be neither too relaxed, nor too rigid. The attitude towards practice should be one of discipline and commitment, but if it becomes too “obsessive” it can take the joy and fun out of the practice and inhibit real progress…
We will address all of these elements in this technique workshop and apply them in some practical breathing and asana work. And there will be plenty of time for discussion and questions.
Our technique workshops are also an opportunity for our regular students to ask questions about their personal practice outside of the Mysore classes.
