Cambridge University Athletic Club
The Pavillion, Wilberforce Road, CB3 0EQ Cambridge, Cambridgeshire
On Sunday 6th August 2017, the Oxford and Cambridge University Athletic Clubs invite you to come and participate in the inaugural ‘University Invitation Match’!
The match will be held at the Wilberforce Athletics Track, Cambridge, UK. Full details and entry information can be found on the match website:
— The motive of the match is to provide a high quality, competitive athletic match between universities of the UK and, where possible, overseas. The match will consist of graded races, with EDM and photo-finish on the day.
The match will have a central focus on the social side of athletics and the key principle of unity and friendship found through sport. The match will, therefore, be an ideal opportunity to form closer ties with neighbouring universities home and abroad; on this occasion, a team of at least 30 athletes from Tokyo and Kyoto Universities, Japan have accepted our invitation to compete.
The match will be run as an open competition where each university can submit as many athletes as they wish for each event, from any ability level. The top two performing athletes from each respective university, for each event, will then have their scores entered into an inter-university total.
During the match, there will be a barbeque (with modestly priced tickets to be ordered in advance) and all will be welcome to watch the live broadcast of the evening session of the London World Athletic Championships, screened in the pavilion.
The match promises to be a truly enjoyable close to the 2017 summer athletics season.
I would be delighted if you could join us, and our honoured guests of Tokyo and Kyoto Universities, to participate in this inter-university competition, and to enjoy the social side of our sport.
