By 26 May, the Hungarian government has to respond to the European Commission’s formal letter of notice concerning the country’s worrying shift towards forming an illiberal state, where freedom of thought, speech and the media is not guaranteed, where universities are under threat, where NGOs are harassed on a daily basis for standing up for human rights and where asylum seekers are locked up in prison-like container camps.

I stand with CEU Cambridge is joining international efforts to support an open and democratic Hungary, the freedom of CEU in Budapest and the independence of Hungarian NGOs. Take a breather from revision and join us for a PICTURE OF SOLIDARITY!

It will only take fifteen minutes of your time! Please arrive at **11am SHARP** for the group picture. The picture will be projected at the Budapest protest later in the day.

We'll provide light snacks/coffee so you can make this a proper recharge break :)

Bring your CEU badge if you have one! Banners/posters are very welcome.

— This spring, Hungarian society has witnessed unprecedented attacks on the freedom of its academic and civil institutions. The Hungarian government announced and passed legislation which will force Central European University to cease existing in Hungary, brands NGOs as ‘foreign agents’, and is running a campaign against the EU entitled ‘Stop Brussels’. Despite the wave of mass demonstrations in Budapest, countless expressions of solidarity from academics throughout the world and warnings formulated by the European Commission and the European People’s Party, the government only reasserted their attacks on CEU, on NGOs and the EU.

The organisers of mass protests that took place last month in Budapest, the Freedom for Education and Nem Maradunk Csendben (We Won't Stay Silent) groups, have joined together to send a very clear and loud message on May 21st to the Hungarian government and the entire world that HUNGARIANS WANT CEU IN BUDAPEST, CIVIL SOCIETY IN HUNGARY, AND HUNGARY IN EUROPE. Protests will be held in Budapest and across the country.
